Know Yourself

People talk.

They don't care about how it'll affect you. They don't care about how it will make you feel. They don't care what other people will think about you. The minute they see a tantalizing, juicy piece of gossip dangling in front of their noses, they just can't resist taking a little nip.

I know a couple of people that think that not speaking to anyone and alienating themselves from the rest of the social crowd will somehow stop people from talking about them. Wrong. They talk about you regardless of whether you're a social butterfly, or whether you're a social reject.

We can't live our lives worrying about what other people think about us. There's always going to be someone out there who doesn't like the way you act, think or do things. If we spend every single minute of our lives trying to please the people around us - trying to make them approve of us - we're not really living our lives for us, are we? We'll be living it for them.

Wanting to keep the people you love happy, and wanting every one to like you are two completely different things, in my opinion. I would do anything, anything, to protect the people I love and keep them smiling - even if  I have to go through hell to do it. But there comes a point where, despite how much you'd like to keep everyone around you happy, you really have to stop and consider your own happiness once in a while.

Sometimes you come first.

Which is why I say that no one should spend their lives worrying what other people think. There'll always be people who think the worst of you when you're at your best. It's the ones that think the best of you when you're at your worst, whose opinions really matter.

No matter how much other people's words hurt you, I guess the best thing you can do is just ignore them because, well, you're the one who knows what's really going on right? And besides, their words are just that; words. It's your own opinion of yourself that counts.
